Riding Event Details
Event Elegibility
While we encourage all off-road motorcyclists to become an NMA member, you don't need to be a member to ride our events.
However, to be eligible for series awards at the end of the season, there are a couple requirements. These must be in place before the event you wish to have count on your season points total.

Event Type Descriptions
There are riding events for every kind of rider, from beginners to seasoned racers looking for excellent competition.
Riding events are held in areas all over Washington, so the terrain changes considerably. We recommend that you contact the event sponsor to see how appropriate the ride is for your skill level.
Here are descriptions of each event type.
- Poker Runs
These are family events with trail options for everyone from beginners to experts. There are frequently long and short courses and many have ATV and kids trails. Poker runs are not races so you can ride at your own pace. Checkpoints are placed along the course where you draw playing cards. Awards are given on the basis the best poker hands.
For more information, see our Poker Run page.
- Trail Rides
Trail rides are similar to poker runs where you follow a marked course, but there are no check points. There are usually contigency prizes. These are excellent social rides and a good way to learn new trails.
- Enduros
These are trail events similar to a rally where your goal is to maintain a pre-determined speed average. There are secret check points to measure your ability to maintain the speed average (too fast carries a bigger penalty than being too slow). There are short (30+ mi) and long (50+ mi) courses for various skill levels.
- ISDE (International Six Day Enduro)
These events are similar to enduros, except that you don't have to maintain a particular speed average. You generally can ride hard for a few miles, then have a rest break at the check point. Special timed test sections (faster is better) are used to determine the results.
- Hare Scrambles/Grand Prix
These are closed course events of 5 to 30+ miles where you race for 2 to 3 hours depending on class. They are like a long motocross on trails, where fastest speed determines the winner.
- Desert Races
These are open terrain, "speed rules" events. They may be long laps, or from point to point, but demand good speed and concentration. Various classes divide up the race for differing skill levels.
- Dual Sport
These events combine pavement, gravel roads and trails to form loops that you could not travel by any other means. These events use route or roll charts, and do not have an emphasis on speed. There are usually different sections for those who want more trails. Bikes and riders must be street legal, and bikes must be ridable on soft surfaces. Mileages vary to 100 miles or more.
